Doyers St. btw Pell St. and Bowery
Tucked on one of the few bended streets in the city, way down in Chinatown, there lies a cocktail joint. When you walk in, you have a few couches and some back tables that seat maybe 15 people total. The rest of the room is for standing around, but who wants to stand around at a cocktail bar? Get there early, grab a table if you can, drink…that’s about all there is to the place. Cocktails, above average prices for cocktails (~14), taste alright.

So I got to go here for a corporate party, but since it was for a Vodka release, I got the club aspect of it. And by the looks of this place, that is the only aspect of it. Went back a few weeks later…yep, same aspect, though with a line. Bar up front, lots of room for dancing and room for people to sit above and stare at people who dance. It’s a club, no way around it, with an alright DJ. Beer was average tasting (bottles) and actually around average prices, taste fine.
Bayard St. btw Baxter and Mulberry St.
Okay, it’s a dive. But if I could try and describe it a little better, it’s like a bar in another country where all the ex-Pats hang out, that happens to look like someone’s basement…talk about a description! If you strike up the nerve to walk past the exterior, it’s low lighting, plenty of room, and a friendly bartender. Also a big screen toward the back for karaoke. The crowd is older, from locals to guys who probably came here in the 50’s and never moved on. There are no taps, all bottles, on the high end of average prices (oddly enough) and they taste fine.
Baxter St. and White St.
A correction’s officer, a lawyer, and locals from Chinatown walk into a bar…I’m working on the rest. A really good tucked away bar, small but welcoming, mixed crowd (if you couldn’t get that from the opening line). It can get crowded in here, and can turn into a club on Saturday nights, but most nights its just a small group on their way home after work. Drinks taste fine, average prices, good happy hour, nice bartender.
