54th St. and 3rd Ave.
There’s no hotel above, but I feel like I’m in a lobby bar, or on display for all of 3rd Avenue to watch me drink. There’s plenty of space at the bar, lots of tables and seating areas for you and your midtown coworkers to drink. Closes at 1, staff is friendly, average and above average beers at slightly above average prices, taste fine.
58th St. btw 2nd and 3rd Ave.
Just your average, run of the mill, nice pub that, while sometimes crowded, remains off the beaten path (unless your heading to Queens). Service is friendly, older crowd, average beers at average prices, taste fine.
Bleeker St. and MacDougal St.
I never would’ve known this was here if it wasn’t for randomly searching for any new places on a certain other website. Cut through a restaurant (you will be leered at), and head downstairs to this decent cocktail bar. It’s got about a handful of seats at the bar, a small seating area next to it, and that’s about it. Service is friendly, crowd is young, cocktails at cocktail prices, taste fine.
55th St. btw Broadway and 7th Ave.
So the night I was here, there was a Scandal viewing party going on, so I couldn’t get a sense of the normal crowd. This crowd was young, non-hotel guests (btw, I later found that the opposite is the normal crowd on regular nights), but when the bartender forgot to switch to ABC for the reason people were here, talk about a Scandal! Anywho, decent sized space, average beers and mixed drinks here, average prices for both, taste fine.
9th Ave. btw 54th and 55th St.
If you’re going to have a name like this, I don’t think it’s too much to have everything be bacon flavored, right? The food is bacon and/or has bacon in it, but I know someone, somewhere sells bacon infused beers and alcohol, so let’s find them and start replacing those taps! You can get a flight of bacon that’s pretty good, as well as cheap. Service is alright, crowd is a mix, plenty of TV’s, beers are above average at above average prices, taste fine.
Amsterdam Ave. btw 84th and 85th St.
Well, they serve pickles of various types, and I think nothing more needs to be said…What?…This is a beer blog? Fine. Place is usually always crowded, with a decent amount of tables up front, with dining in the back. Service is nice, crowd is a mix of everyone, above average beers at above average prices, taste fine, and pickles.
79th St. btw Broadway and Amsterdam Ave.
Used to be the Sunburnt Calf, and they have really filled the space in. What used to be a long open bar area now has more personality, but a much smaller drinking space. Probably fits around 25 at the bar, but what it lacks in space it makes up for in charm. There’s a “speakeasy” upstairs, but that’s for another time. Bartenders are friendly, crowd is late 20’s to 30’s, drinks taste good, cocktails at cocktail prices.
Sorry folks…folk, been adjusting to the new job, getting things in order, but don’t worry, I have about 150 more bars to post and I’m still finding more. It’s tough trying to be creative (if you want to call it that) for the majority of bars that are run of the mill and, well, I just lost the energy. Anywho, sob story over, I’ll do my best to post on weekdays on a regular basis, and away we go!
