Jane St. and West Side Highway

So the day we went, the elevator to this rooftop bar was out of order.  but if we can make a 65 year old in our group climb the stairs and still have a ball, this place is worth revisiting.  There is a small outdoor patio that really crams them in, but the trick is to sit in the indoor space near the bar where seating is much more aplenty.  Crowd is young to late 20’s, service is nice, views pretty good. Average and above average beers, slightly above average prices, taste fine.

Ludlow St. btw Houston and Stanton St.

Not your typical hotel bar, in that it’s a bit more nice than your run of the mill hotel bar.  Also, there is a lack of tourists and mainly an older crowd. All that being said, it doesn’t get too crowded in this decent sized space.  Service leaves a lot to be desired, but the beers and cocktails are pretty good. Above average beers and cocktails at above average prices, taste fine.

55th St. btw Madison and 5th Ave.

I only heard about this place because it’s one of a few places that lay claim to creating the Bloody Mary (originally called the Red Snapper here).  It was mighty darn tasty.  They don’t have taps here, but what you really come for are the drinks.  Be warned, a the Red Snapper, a gin and Tonic, and other drinks went for about $20 each, but you’re really getting a double helping at once, so the math comes out to a bit over average price for your drink.  What you do get with that cost is a nice place, friendly service, and great tasting drinks.  And fear not, beer is served here as well.

39th St. btw Lexington and Park Ave.

The most awesomest bartender ever…that one’s for you Becks!  The bar itself, located in the W Hotel, is not.  When you get back from the mile long walk through the hotel to get to the bathroom, you’re in a posh bar/lounge that attracts that awesome young business kid crowd that wants to have their “2 month since graduating” reunion close to their office.  That group aside, it’s pretty quiet in here, the beers are actually average prices and taste as good as anywhere else.
